The newly formed research consortium C3.ai Digital Transformation Institute has made awards to 26 research projects led by top scientists and engineers to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic. Four of the recipients have faculty appointments at UC Berkeley’s College of Engineering:

  • Gerbrand Ceder – COVIDScholar: An NLP Hub for COVID-19 Research Literature
  • Teresa Head-Gordon – Scoring Drugs: Small Molecule Drug Discovery for COVID-19 Using Physics-Inspired Machine Learning
  • Jennifer Listgarten – Data-Driven, High-Dimensional Design for Trustworthy Drug Discovery
  • Alberto Sangiovanni-Vincentelli – Detection and Containment of Emerging Diseases Using AI Techniques

Such efforts could help advance contact tracing, find a cure or reopen the economy. A significant number of the projects advance artificial intelligence research that aims to reduce racial, economic and healthcare disparities in COVID-19 public policy.
